3 simple tricks to elevating your outfits.

Laura Rose Barth October 18, 2015

Champagne taste on a beer budget? Dressing high end doesn't mean emptying your wallet. Here's a few tips!

1. Accent with metallic detail.

Elevate your look with a touch of gold or silver. Add a dash of simple delicate jewelry, a smart watch, or buckles and buttons in a gold tone. I'm specifically enjoying a splash of rose gold right now. Be careful to not get carried away. Less is always more. Also, softer gold tones with less brassy hues tend to look most classy.

2. Select luxurious textures.

Search out fine knitted garments or silk look a-like fabrics. It's easier to find faux suede that looks quality, but with a little effort you may also score a faux leather or fur that looks authentic!

Each season I am amazed at the handful of quality looking items I can find at basic stores like, Target, Gap, Zara and Forever21. I recently picked up a long camel duster from Zara that looks high end but I found at a bargain and can be worn three seasons, bam.

3. Save the quality of your garments by washing less.

Have you tried the freezer trick? It works! When you have a few dollars spare take your clothes to the dry cleaner.

Tailor your favorite pieces – a little nip and tuck and you're looking high end in something you already own.

(I had help wearing out these ivory jeans. Sent my Zara denim to Tattoos n Lace for custom distressing.)

Take a few minutes to sharpen your look by ironing or steaming your clothes. Some fabrics will wrinkle just looking at them. Be a savvy shopper and use your critical eye to identify problem fabrics. I keep a lint roller handy for a polished look.

You don't need to spend to get that luxe look, just choose the right pieces – and when in doubt, opt for classic options.

Happy hunting, Laura

Post cards from ROME

Laura Rose Barth September 27, 2015

Rome photo scavenger hunt :

1. Campo de' Fiori in the morning to sample olive oils and Balsamic vinegars at the market

2. Nel buco del mulo for a sandwich

3. Mail a post card from the Vatican City at Poste Vaticare

4. Vendita Libri, Cioccolata e Vino to sample an editable shot glasses made of chocolate

5. Walk up Gianicolo Hill - admire Rome and the cannons that fire at midday - change of plans! Visited Piazza Navona instead. Would try to find an apartment here next time, it's our favorite place to eat and relax.

6. Cacio e pepe osteria for a classic dish of spaghetti carbonara ... a recipe from the chef

7. Visit Trevi fountain at midnight! Another change of plans. Trevi is closed for construction until Late October.

8. Sample every flavor of Gelato at the Frigidarium in Piazza Navona ... "Frigidarium", voted our favorite flavor, which still seems a mystery to me what's actually in it. Caramel? Cake batter? I have no idea... calories, for sure.

9. Catch a glimpse of the eye of the Pantheon, or oculus ... arrived just as the doors closed for the day... so naturally we stopped for a pizza instead.

10. Antico Caffè del Moro to sip a pear collins

11. Pizza and vino at Dar Poeta ... well I missed the pizza shot... bruschetta anyone?

12. Selfie w/ The Sistine Chapel's ceiling. 5,000 square ft of frescoes. Don't get caught this time ... I felt bad breaking the rules so these pics have been carefully taken from inside my handbag... as you can tell I'm sure.

13. Lunch at La Boccaccia Trastevere for a broccoli and sausage pizza ... minus the broccoli.

14. Meet friends on the the widest stairway in all of Europe, Spanish Steps

15. Aristocampo for an eggplant and wild boar dinner

16. Much needed dawn run through the Vatican City ... too many late nights turned our run into a stroll.

17. Deliver Nespresso in bed to my hubby every morning

18. Visit the cross at the Colosseum ... in the rain which was very beautiful.

19. Sunday morning walk from our cottage to the Porta Portese Flea Market

I'm writing from a little apartment on the 3rd floor of this street. It's 1:56am here in Trastevere and I have a terrible case of jet lag, still. Seven days of Roma and it's been a treat. See you tomorrow Chicago!

Until next Sunday at 7pm - Laura Rose

Our Chicago wedding celebration

Laura Rose Barth September 20, 2015

I'm overwhelmed by the creative minds who made our wedding reception such a wonderful memory. This post is long overdue as Clint and I celebrated in March.

Time is a funny thing. We've settled into our life together. We are now referred to as the Davis'. We finish each others sentences and wear similar outfits (not intentionally, it just happens) ... it's like we've been married for years.

Then I look at these photos and feel like we threw this party just last weekend. The memories are sweetly fresh and the images of our friends and family I will hold for a lifetime. With a heart full of love, Laura

Post cards from ITALY

Laura Rose Barth September 13, 2015

I found these photos from a trip I took around Italy a few years back. Flipping through the endless files inspired me to be more purposeful in taking travel photos, not just snapping ferociously. (Old habits may die hard but now you can hold me to my new goal!)

In 8 days Clint, my sis and I will be heading to a small neighborhood in Lazio, Italy called Trastevere (Near Rome's city center).

We pooled our must see lists and came up with a photo scavenger hunt to document our trip.

Note that I didn't add relaxing...the top item on all our lists. Hah ha. I will probably be sharing the most on Snapchat (laurarosedavis) and a few pics on Instagram during the week and then right back here next Sunday at 7pm highlight images from our hunt. Ciao!
