They go perfectly together - like Black-Eyed Susans on back country roads. She is sweet, down-to-earth and intelligent. He is an artist, the creative genius of many media. I was absolutely thrilled to be photographing these two. Their only request when planning details was that their session look very "Midwestern".

"Mooooommmm, I only wear skinny jeans!" protested Scarlet, her little voice carrying quite impressively for being only three. Of course I laugh. It was adorable. Somehow I was the only one who missed the memo... you NEVER laugh at a three year old!

I first fell in love with her easy laugh and cool, comfy style as she lounged on my yellow couch in the studio. We chatted until the soft night lights on Main Street popped on. Within minutes of our first meeting I knew I would be counting down the days until her session.

"What do you miss most about living in Europe?" I ask as we slip back into the car to warm up. "Long weekends in Paris, beautiful architecture ... and cheese, of course!" she laughs while I attempt to rub the life back into my freezing fingers and toss a smile her way. The snow and cold weather are as endearing to Cara as a Shakespearian sonnet or one of Mozart's concertos.

She made my day with those big eyes full of wonder. Her mama was becoming lightheaded as she struggled to blow iridescent bubbles through the cheap, pink, plastic wand I brought along. Such an inefficient means of fun. Izzy's eyes just grew bigger with every happy bubble floating her way. As if my heart wasn't melted already, Isabelle stood by their car blowing me kisses as I drove away.
Note to self... take time to enjoy the simple things... and invest in a new bubble set.
